Setting Goals
“Know the Difference between Dreaming and Planning”- Mr. Levin
*Real goal setting is a planned out process! Sure you can dream that you are a major league baseball player living in your million dollar mansion, but is that what you really want? What do you want? – And most importantly – How are you going to get there? Experts say that the happiest people in life are goal setters. How do you set goals? Easy! Baby Steps! One large goal is a thousand small goals. For example, if your goal is to graduate from high school, there are everyday obstacles that you have to overcome first. The reason we get out of bed every morning is because we have a goal for that day. Every decision that you make during the day can lead you closer or further away from your ultimate goal of graduating high school. Do I get my homework done tonight? Should I give in to peer pressure tonight? These are questions that you will have to answer during your high school experience. You should write down your ultimate goals. Look at them before you go to sleep at night. Decide what needs to be done the next morning to bring you closer to achieving your ultimate goal. Reviewing your goals daily is a crucial part of your success and must become part of your routine. Each morning when you wake up read your list of goals that are written in the positive. Every time you make a decision during the day, ask yourself this question, "Does it take me closer to, or further from my goal." If the answer is "closer to," then you've made the right decision. If the answer is "further from," well, you know what to do.
Goal Setting Steps
This is what I want – not what my friends, parents, teachers want for me!
This is a realistic goal. If I accomplish all of my small goals daily I can realistically accomplish this large goal. I have a direct plan that can work!
Develop large goals and daily small goals in each following area: Family and Home, Ethical and Spiritual, Social and Cultural, Financial and Career, Physical and Health, Mental and Educational
Write down your large goals and look at them every morning/ night.
